31 January
Itโs been a very busy weekend! Always great to see familiar faces and new ones too. ๐
PYO apricots are now over but there will be boxes of apricots on the Fruit Stall for the next week or so.
The Billington plums have ripened and are available in 3 kg bags for $9-00. ๐
This variety has red flesh and red skin and is an all purpose plum with great flavour.
Ideal for Sauce โ Jam โ Eating – Bottling – Stewing.
Shiro plums will be on the Stall from tomorrow onwards in 2 kg bags and selling for $6-00.
Bon Chretien pears; also called Williams and Bartlett; should start in a week or ten days once the sugar level is up a wee bit more.
PYO nectarines should be available in about eight days as will our peaches.
Hopefully the warmer weather has returned so the fruit will all ripen quicker.ย ๐
There is heaps of wonderful fruit throughout the Valley and if we havenโt got what you want, we will put you onto places that do. ๐
29 January
This weekend we have Moorpark and Clutha Gold apricots available for PYO. ๐
As always the PYO price is $1.90/kg.
On the Stall we have Clutha Gold and Stevens Favourite apricots available in 1st grade ($3/kg) and 2nd grade ($2.50/kg) boxes. ๐
Shiro and Billington plums are still a couple of days away.
We have been completely picked out of our first variety of PYO Nectarines but our next variety will be ready to roll in about 9 days time. ๐
28 January
A big day todayโฆ..our first fine day, which actually lasted all day. ๐
Itโs been a bit of a nasty week, so everybody made the most of the fine weather and came picking! ๐
It was great to see so many familiar faces and many new ones. ๐
There are still plenty of Moorparks available for PYO but the first variety of nectarines may be over by Saturday as there are so many nectarine lovers and they picked their hearts out today. ๐
The next variety is about 10 days away and there is a great crop so donโt panic if you miss out on the first lot.
The Shiro plums will start on Saturday and they are a great eating and jam plum. ๐
On the Fruit Stall we have a range of 1st ($3/kg) and 2nd ($2.50/kg) grade boxes of Stevenโs Favourite and Trevatt apricots.
25 January
Weโve had to pull the plug on Roxburgh Red Courier orders due to the recent rain but they are still available for PYO. ๐
PYO Moorparks start this Thursday.
PYO Nectarines start today. ๐
Spasmodic rain/showers are predicted for the next couple of days but as the weatherman is often wrong, I provide weather reports during the Fruit Season, so flick me a TXT or ring me on my cell 027 210 6457 or landline 03 446 8585 . ๐
We had showers this morning but they stopped at 9am and now itโs a great day. ๐
23 January
Weโve had a good day with PYO Roxburgh Red and Valley Gold and there are plenty left on the trees for tomorrow. ๐
The Sundrops are finished though Iโm afraid.
Our PYO price is $1-90 kg.
Our Moorparks will be available for PYO next weekend.
On the Fruit Stall from tomorrow we will have 6kg boxes of Stevenโs Favourite for $18-00. ๐
Steven Favourite are another old variety, a great all-rounder and Mumโs (Sandra) favourite apricot variety. ๐
21 January
Roxburgh Red and Valley Gold apricots are available for PYO this weekend ($1.90/kg). ๐
Roxburgh Red and Valley Gold are great for bottling, stewing, freezing and jam.
The Moorparks are still about a week away.
The Trevatts which look similar to Moorparks are nearly ready but of course donโt have the Moorpark taste.
Our first variety of PYO nectarines should be ready by Monday. Had hoped they would ripen by Saturday but sadly the little sods didnโt comply with my orders.
All fruit varieties are late this Season!
I am considering filing a lawsuit against the weather.. ๐
The Shiro and Billington plums should be ready in about a week.
As always we will have plenty of apricots available on the Stall. $3/kg for 1st grade and $2.50/kg for 2nd grade).
Typically in 6kg and 8kg boxes. ๐
The weather forecast says it will be a hot weekend so bring your togs for a dip in Pinders Pond after picking. Our local ‘Jimmyโs Pies’ is closed over weekends but you can still get Jimmyโs Pies at the Teviot Tearooms in Roxburgh. A lovely couple run this place and they also do brilliant fish and chips and everything else which is tasty. Definitely worth checking out. ๐
Cherries and berries are still available in the Valley and we will send you in the right direction for them.ย ๐
January 18
PYO Sundrops are still available and should continue through until this coming weekend. ๐
PYO Roxburgh Red apricots will start up at the end of the week along with PYO Valley Gold apricots.
Valley Gold are a great cooking apricot so are perfect for bottling, stewing and freezing. ๐
The PYO nectarines should be ready to roll by the weekend.
Billington plums are about a week away.
Moorpark apricots are about 9 days away still (the recent cooler temperatures have slowed them right down).
On the Stall right now we have Sundrop apricots available in 1st grade ($3/kg) and 2nd grade ($2.50/kg). ๐
All courier orders for Sundrop have now ceased. We are starting to send out Roxburgh Reds and Valley Gold next week so if youโd like some then flick us a message to place your order.
January 15
PYO โSundrop’ apricots are still on the go with another block being opened up tomorrow. ๐
The trees are laden so there is plenty for everyone.ย ๐
PYO ‘Early Wilsonโ plums also available. Both $1-90/kg.
For those who donโt want to pick, the Fruit Stall will be well stocked.
1st grade Sundrop apricots at $3/kg and 2nds at $2.50/kg. ๐
January 13
We have been run off our feet with PYO Sundrops as well as restocking the Fruit Stall on a continual basis throughout the day as obviously PYO doesnโt appeal to everyone. ๐
We have heaps of Sundrops on the trees with more ripening daily so there is plenty for everyone. ๐
Remember you can PYO or buy off the Stall anytime between 7am and 9pm, 7 days a week. ๐
Time for me to go and pick a wee bit more fruit. ๐
Jan 9
A busy day with PYO ‘Sundrop’ apricots today. ๐
The trees are plentiful so donโt worry if you canโt come up until tomorrow or during the week. ๐
I can hear all the other varieties of apricots ripening as I write.
The Fruit Stall is fully stocked every day so no worries if ‘picking your own’ doesnโt appeal. ๐
